The bow tie should match the fabric of the lapel of the tuxedo jacket. Common fabrics are silk, and grosgrain. Grosgrain was the original fabric used on tuxedos. A grosgrain lapel, requires a grosgrain bowtie. Furthermore, the bow tie should match the color of the tuxedo jacket. Regarding shirts, there are 2 basic types: French front and stud front. French front does not require any jewelry/studs. The stud front is where you insert jewelry studs to close the shirt. Both shirts will require cuff links. There are many shirt fabric finishes to choose from, as long as you are purchasing a formal shirt, all should be appropriate.
